# SketchUp cannot connect to Transmutr

If SketchUp shows "*SketchUp cannot connect to Transmutr"* or [Options](/options.md) lists no connected instances:

1. **Launch Transmutr once** so the extension is installed/updated into your SketchUp Plugins folder.
2. **Restart SketchUp** after installing or updating Transmutr.
3. Confirm you are using SketchUp **2024 or newer**.
4. Start Transmutr from **Extensions → Transmutr → Import model** instead of only as a standalone app.
5. Allow Transmutr and SketchUp through your **firewall** / security software for local connections.
6. Try the steps in [Transmutr's window is blank](/faq/transmutrs-window-is-blank.md) if the desktop app itself misbehaves.
